The Nimitz class of nuclear powered Aircraft Carriers (CVN) are among the most powerful surface units afloat today and are the main punch of the U.S Navy. The true forceful negotiators of the freeworld. They are the result of years of Aircraft Carrier devalopment and incorporate the latest naval technology to achieve a self-sustained warship with an airwing greater than most small airforces. At a cost of US\\$600m each, they take several years to build and can deter a hostile nation from beginning a conflict. The flight deck, over four and a half acres is large enough to play golf on! The ship's defensive systems include several eight-cell Sea-Sparrow SAMs and the famous 20mm Vulcan Phalanax CIWS, which can easily destroy the latest generation of Anti-Ship missiles and has been sold to many nations around the world. The ship's main defence against submarines lies in it's escorting Cruisers, Destroyers, Frigates and Attack-Subs in the Carrier-Battle Group (CBG) but the ASW Aircraft carried by the Nimitz class would prove to be a major annoyance to any hostile submarine skipper. After the Nimitz commissioned in 1972, Nimitz and other members of her class have seen service in The Persian Gulf War in 1992, where their aircraft were one of the main factors that drove Saddam to surrender a few months after the conflict started. The mere presence of these giants drives many violent nations into silent submission every year.
